Road Whiz
The Road Whiz was an early handheld navigator that did not rely on GPS. Ultradata Systems marketed the Road Whiz Ultra (Model 970) as an “Interstate Travel Guide, with directions to thousands of destinations and services along highways and in major metropolitan areas.
Used in combination with the printed directory, it was useful without GPS — for a while, because the database was fixed at the time of manufacture. In 1999, QVC sold 90,000 units in a single day.
